SULTANS OF STRING

Join the Sultans of String in their exploration of world rhythms in this mesmerizing global concert experience. The Mariposa Folk Foundation describes them as “Just awesome original Gypsy-jazz-flamenco! Chris presents a wild and improvised musical journey. Along with Kevin Laliberte, the band romps through an energized adventure of Latin, jazz and folk rhythms. Chris McKhool’s violin playing is a treat!”

Chris McKhool (violin) grew up in a house bursting with music - his piano-playing mother was born in Cairo and his ancestors on his father’s side were from Lebanon (McKhool is usually spelled Makhoul in K’fir Mishki, Lebanon). Together with Kevin Laliberte (guitar) he has drawn on the rhythms of Spain, Morocco, his own Middle Eastern heritage, French Manouche Gypsy-jazz, and his trips across the globe to create works that are “rich, textured, original and fun!”

 INSTITUTO MEXICANO DEL

 SONIDO

Following the success of last year’s Mexican Institute of

Sound (MIS) debut ‘Méjico Máxico’, MIS is back with

“Piñata” (July 24th - Nacional Records), an infectious

pastiche of electronica, dub, cha cha cha, cumbia, spoken

word and other musical treats waiting to burst out of its

paper maché shell. The new album features a number of

guests including members of Tom Tom Club, Fantastic

Plastic Machine, and Babasonicos. In the past year, MIS

as received widespread acclaim from outlets like Spin,

NY Times, and Urb, as well as radio support from such

tastemakers as KCRW (Los Angeles), Indie 103

(Los Angeles), KEXP (Seattle) and KUT (Austin).

 LAZCANO MALO

Presenting his new realese

Look for Son Pacifica and listen.
